At 1,463 metres above sea level, Kotel is one of the highest mountains in the Giant Mountains and offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
It is a prominent peak, on its slopes there are bunkers that were part of the First Republic border fortifications and are mostly accessible. The southeastern slope drops sharply by avalanche tracks into the glacial karsts – the Big and Small Kotelni pit, which is a protected area with rich mountain flora. The top of the Kotel itself is inaccessible and there are no marked trails leading to it – it is the first zone of the Krkonoše National Park.
